This group may or may not become a vocal group such as Ireland’s Association of Catholic Priests.
short history
Fr. Bob Cushing, Savannah“There are so many of us who have been roasted, toasted and tossed out by the church, but we still keep coming back. Not that we are beggars for punishment, even though it would seem so.
We are artists, musicians, poets, pastors and dreamers who are connecting with other pilgrims of the infinite. We are more than mildly distressed by the ecclesial turn of events since Paul VI. We have been wrecked and laid waste, devastated and destroyed ... but we are still "hanging in" ... still trying to keep hope alive, because it is the only dance there is.
Twenty-seven of us survivors got together at the end of August of 2011 at Mundelein to start a new group, AUSCP, the Association of US Catholic Priests.
We want to keep the best of Vatican II alive. We are a fraternity of priests in good standing who still want to push the justice agenda in the spirit of Vatican II but not in a strident way. We are a reconciling body, who are trying to provide a realistic means for dialogue among brothers and then among the people of God, hierarchy included, but one step at a time, so that no one gets run over.
