The Catholic Diocese of Rockford has just signed a sales contract to buy land adjacent the playground/parking lot at St. James Parish Belvidere. By doing so St. James is proposing to supply a total of 170 on site parking spaces for its proposed new church. The cost was not disclosed by Mr. Linkenheld at Tuesday’s meeting at the Community Building however he did state that the price was lower than that which the sellers paid for it.
Below are the public records concerning the house at that 548 Caswell Street. It was purchased in February 1999 for $51,000 and sold again in April 1999 for $76,000. The tax assessor valued the property at $102,925 in 2010 and now for the upcoming year at $89,764.
The vacant lot is assessed at $7,679 and is also shown below, its is address is 402 Laurel Court.
Mr. Linkenheld stated that the cost to demolish a house is approximately $10,000-$15,000 and that construction
of a parking lot is approximately $600 per space.
